Full details of the new Hearthstone keywords (Rush and Echo) that are coming with The Witchwood expansion.
Thanks to the release of a chunky trailer a little earlier on this evening, we now know that the next expansion for Hearthstone is called The Witchwood. This rather spooky card set will feature more than 130 new cards (of course...), and a new single player mode called Monster Hunt!
In addition to these staples, we also know that there are going to be a total of two new keywords for this expansion. They're not particularly revolutionary for the game (and in fact one is actually a limited version of an existing mechanic), but we wanted to gather together everything we currently know about both Rush and Echo in one place.
In the first edition of this guide we're highlighting all of the new cards that have been revealed so far that make use of both of these keywords. As more cards are revealed in the run up to launch, we'll add them in here so you can see what's in store for the game on this front, and we'll also link deck guides that make use of each card once the expansion is actually live.

The first thing to know about the Rush keyword is that it actually functions an awful lot like Charge. Now in the past, Charge has been a problematic card for Team 5, and so they've somewhat neutered its effect for The Witchwood.
Cards with the Rush keyword can attack on the turn they're played, but it's important to note that they can only target minions on that same turn, not heroes. That allows the designers to have fun with the core mechanic, without it becoming ridiculously overpowered and breaking the meta.
The following cards all innately possess the Rush keyword:
- Cursed Castaway
- Darius Crowley
- Druid of the Scythe
- Ghostly Charger
- Gilnean Royal Guard
- Hunting Mastiff
- Militia Commander
- Muck Hunter
- Rabid Worgen
- Redband Wasp
- Swift Messenger
- Vicious Scalehide
- Vilebrood Skitterer
These cards are not Rush minions themselves but have Rush interactions and synergies:
- Town Crier
- Woodcutter's Axe
- Countess Ashmore
- Houndmaster Shaw
The Echo keyword reminds us a great deal of Unstable Evolution. Essentially, the Echo mechanic allows you to play a card multiple times, assuming you have the Mana to do so.
So, if you have nine Mana to play around with and you have an Echo card that costs three Mana, you can play it up to three times (assuming you want to, of course - you might want to spend some of that Mana elsewhere).

- Phantom Militia
- Pick Pocket
- Sound the Bells!
