Overcoming numerous top players and a bracket reset, Tweek reminded everyone why he’s a top player in Smash Ultimate.

The world’s top players descended on the metropolitan behemoth that is Laurel, Maryland over the weekend to compete in Glitch 8. ESAM, Meister, Light, Cosmos, Dark Wizzy and Dabuz all featured, but Tweek came out on top.

Tweek wins Glitch 8 - Missingno

Team SoloMid’s Tweek managed to pull off several victories at Glitch 8, both within the Squad Strike category and the main event. Tweek’s Wolf absolutely dominated in Squad Strike, taking down ESAM in the grand finals.

In the Singles tournament, Tweek churned through a whole host of top players, beating out WaDi in Top 32 and entering the Grand Finals through defeating Dark Wizzy 3-2 in the Winners Final. A setback occurred when the Grand Final bracket was reset, with Dark Wizzy winning a convincing 3-0, but Tweek came back strong by bringing out Wario and finishing 3-1 in the reset.

It’s a great sign for the future of both finalists’ careers. Dark Wizzy showed just how clutch his Mario play is, but Tweek proved the value of versatility, using all of Wolf, Roy and Wario in the Grand Final matches.

Glitch attendees will be looking forward to the next big tournaments in the Smash Ultimate calendar - EVO Japan and Genesis 7. The Japanese tournament will play host to almost 3000 Smash players, whilst Genesis will have over 1600. Genesis will feature the world’s best player, MKLeo, so it’ll be the perfect opportunity for western Smash players to prove themselves against the very best. EVO Japan will be an absolute cracker too, featuring the very best of Japan’s Smash scene, from Tea’s incredible Pac Man to wonderkid Zackray.

Both of these tournaments will take place between January 24th and January 26th, so keep an eye on EVO and Genesis for more intense action.
