This page explains how to equip guns, attachments and grenades in PUBG without having to take your eye off the battlefield.

PUBG’s all about surviving longer than the competition and making sure you come out the winner from every hair-raising fight you find yourself in - whether you'd gone looking for that fight or not. Twiddling your thumbs on the plane and falling from the sky with a parachute strapped to your back is just about the only time where everyone’s on an even playing field. As soon as players touch down on the ground though, it's a mad scramble to gather up every bit of loot you can find.

This is when things really start heating up, and when you'll start running around a building scouring the floor for any sign of shiny goodies to pick up. Finding a weapon and slapping on a military vest and biker helmet before all the other enemies in your vicinity can do so will often mean the difference between death and survival in the early game.

There are a couple of different ways to grab loot in PUBG and different methods suit different scenarios. It’ll take time to perfect them, but practise and you’ll spend less time fiddling around and more time carving out an advantage for yourself.

Make sure you visit our core PUBG Guide hub when you're done here. It contains all of the most important tips and tactics you need to win more games.

How to equip guns, attachments and grenades

First things first, here’s a breakdown of the character inventory screen with an image to help you visualise what we’re describing.

Items you pick up go into your inventory, which is the big list just over to the far left of the screen.

Armour, Helmets and Backpacks are equipped in the smaller slots just to the immediate left of your character.

Weapons, Attachments, Grenades and cosmetic items are all equipped on the right.

PC

Method 1

  • By default the interact button is bound to [F] on PC.
  • Press this next to a piece of armour or a weapon and you’ll automatically equip it. Be careful as it’ll swap out what you’ve already got on at the time.
  • Pressing this next to a consumable item (Energy Drinks, First Aid Kits etc.) will automatically place it in your inventory.

Method 2

  • Stand over a pile of loot.
  • Press [TAB] to bring up your inventory and it’ll show what’s on the ground to the left of your screen.
  • Swipe the items from the ground into certain slots in your inventory. Alternatively you can swipe them straight into your character slots to equip them directly.
  • Compatible items like Attachments for weapons will cause slots to glow. If there’s no shining equipment slot on the right of your screen, then said item cannot be equipped.
  • Instead of swiping, you can also use the [RMB] to place them in your inventory.
  • Detach Attachments from your weapons by right-clicking on them.

Xbox One

Method 1

  • By default the interact button is bound to [X] on Xbox One.
  • Press this next to a piece of armour or a weapon and you’ll automatically equip it. Be careful as it’ll swap out what you’ve already got equipped.
  • Pressing this next to a consumable item (Energy Drinks, First Aid Kits etc.) will automatically place it in your inventory.

Method 2

  • Stand over a pile of loot.
  • Press [LB] to bring up your inventory and it’ll show what’s on the ground to the left of your screen.
  • Scroll up and down the list using your D-Pad and press [X] to pick it up and add it to your inventory.
  • Compatible items like Attachments for weapons will cause slots to glow. If there’s no shining equipment slot on the right of your screen, then said item cannot be equipped.
  • Holding [X] will enable you to choose how much of something you want to pick up.

How to loot faster

Here are a few tips and tricks to help you loot that little bit faster.

  • Enemy corpses will leave a crate behind. Stand over these loot packages and press [TAB] or [LB] to bring up what items they had before swiping them into your inventory.
  • If you want to equip something off the ground quickly use the interact key, rather than bringing up your inventory. This is especially helpful when you’re racing to get some loot in a hotly contested area.

That's all we have for now, but we'll continue updating this guide over time, so stay tuned for all the latest!
