About Ed Thorn

Ed's a huge fan of rushing B in CS:GO and grinding it out in Destiny 2. He will not rest until a new Wario Land is announced.

Yes, you read the headline right. Blizzard has suddenly released Doomfist onto the PTR in Overwatch, and he’s available to play right this second!

Doomfist joins Overwatch’s roster as an offense hero - or villain. Blizzard describes him as a “highly-mobile, powerful frontline fighter.” Being an aggressive juggernaut, Doomfist is able to deal ranged damage with his Hand Cannon, but prefers getting up close and personal with ground slams that send enemies flying. Closing the gap on opponents isn’t a problem either as Meteor Strike allows him to rocket towards targets and tear through groups of enemies.

Fans have been asking for Doomfist since Overwatch first launched. The Doomfist itself featured in the first cinematic trailer, and movie posters dotted around the Hollywood map have pictured various artworks of the character. Recent cosmetic changes to Numbani and an official blog post suggested that Doomfist wasn’t just a myth, and would be arriving in the game soon.

When Blizzard releases new heroes they’re placed in the PTR for roughly two or more weeks before transitioning over to the main game. It enables Blizzard to fix any glaring or underlying issues players find when testing new content, so they’re ironed out for the final release. Going by how long Orisa spent on the PTR following her initial reveal, we expect Doomfist to hit the live servers towards the end of this month.

Blizzard has released an overview of Doomfist’s origin story which you can see in the video we’ve embedded above.

The images below provide another good look at Doomfist, so it’s worth checking them out. If anything, they reinforce the fact that he likes punching things with his robotic fist.
