Our Overwatch Workshop guide will help you get to grips with the Overwatch Workshop tool.
Blizzard’s gone ahead and released its very own user generated content suite of tools known as the Overwatch Workshop. While it doesn’t allow players to create completely new maps or design entirely new heroes, it does enable players to tinker with the game logic underpinning official, existing content.
Despite the Overwatch Workshop’s surprise release over on the PTR, players have already created some game mode concepts and it won’t be long before we see some incredibly imaginative stuff. Perhaps Blizzard will release a handful of the most popular creations officially? Only time will tell.
In the official video reveal, game director Jeff Kaplan made it clear that the Workshop was designed to be accessible but that it won’t appeal to everyone. It’s going to speak to those who have some experience in scripting engines - or people with a knack for programming - as it’s all based around, well, scripts.
To help you get a better grasp of how the Overwatch Workshop functions, we’ve put together a primer guide which contains some of the most useful resources to get you up and running in no time. We’ll begin fleshing it out over time too, so stay tuned for further updates!
How do I access the Workshop?
From the main menu: Select Play > Game Browser > Create > Settings > Workshop.
Overwatch Workshop: Video Resources
Since the Workshop is a pretty complicated affair, we thought it best to link some useful video resources which not only explain how things work but also show them all off in action.
Beginner Guides by Red
Red’s in the process of putting together a series of guides to help players understand how scripting works, before showing how to put it to use in-game. Definitely a series to keep an eye on!
First Impressions by Valkia
Valkia’s put together a great first look at the Workshop, going through the tools before jumping into different game modes.
We'll be overhauling this guide over time, so for now, make sure you give Blizzard's official Workshop page a view as it contains some in-depth advice for all budding scripters.
