Cinematic and Gameplay Trailers

Here's the cinematic trailer (it's the best yet).

And we've linked the gameplay one as well.

What is Overwatch 2?

Overwatch 2 is a sequel to the original Overwatch and features a tonne of new features.

Here's a quick look at all of them:

  • New core game mode - Push: "In Push, a new, symmetrical map type that will launch with Overwatch 2, teams battle to take control of a robot that begins in a central location, then push it toward the enemy base. Either team may take control of the robot at any time. The team that pushes the robot furthest onto the enemy side wins the game."
  • Hero Missions: Cooperative missions which are designed to be endlessly replayable. You'll fight against a range of "diverse and dangerous enemies", level up your favourite heroes and earn "customisation options to help you beat the odds".
  • Story Missions: These are intense four-player missions in which you'll fight back against Null Sector and uncover the motives behind the omnic attacks, and "confront a rising wave of new threats".
  • Items: These can be found in Story Missions and have been likened to those you might find in Battle Royale modes. They come in different rarities, and provide a variety of different uses. Everything from barriers to heal stations, for example.
  • Visual Upgrades: "Overwatch 2 evolves the look and feel of the world, with more dynamic environments, larger scale battles, additional in-game storytelling events, and improved atmospheric effects and shadows. Heroes in Overwatch 2 will also have a brand-new look, with greater detail and higher fidelity." More reworks will arrive over time too!
  • New maps: Toronto, Gothenburg, and Monte Carlo. More will be released as Overwatch 2 evolves.

What is the Overwatch 2 release date?

Currently there is no release date for Overwatch 2 as it's actively in development, but we imagine it'll arrive Q1 next year.

What platforms will Overwatch 2 be on?

It's will be playable on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch.

How much does Overwatch 2 cost?

We don't know how much Overwatch 2 will cost - yet. This will be announced at a later date.

Can Overwatch 1 players, play with Overwatch 2 owners?

Overwatch 1 players will be able to play with Overwatch 2 players in PvP multiplayer, and they will also be able to play Overwatch 2 heroes and maps.

Will I keep my Overwatch 1 cosmetics?

All of your accomplishments and your loot collection will be carried forward to Overwatch 2.

New Hero: Sojourn

We've got a glimpse at the new Hero arriving on release in the gameplay trailer.

We don't know much, but she's got a robotic arm and big gun. Something tells us she'll be a damage dealer, but we'll have to wait and see.

Overwatch 2: Leaks and Speculation

MMO Champion Leaks

A new image of Overwatch 2 appeared over on MMO Champion's forum (via Polygon) which features the game's 32nd hero, Echo. It was first seen over on the Blizzard merchandise store and shared on the MMO Champion forum, but it has since been removed.

Here's a look at the image:

Note Echo in the top left, and what looks like her ability to take flight. Very interesting indeed.

ESPN Report

Here’s a breakdown of all the features detailed in the ESPN report, which was originally leaked as a part of a training document circulating around BlizzCon.

It’s also worth mentioning that none of this is confirmed, and plenty of the stuff listed is likely to change, or not even feature at all.

- Hero talents and in-game items are coming to Overwatch 2 PvE. Perhaps this means we’ll be able to spec out our favourite heroes with game-changing perks, or even earn XP to invest points in a skill-tree?

There's an image over on the game's subreddit which features talents for Tracer in the PvE mode.

When it comes to items, we’re not totally sure. Maybe this means stage-specific items which you need to pick up in order to progress. Here’s hoping it’s a loot-based system, but we’re probably asking for too much.

- There will be a four-player “story experience” set in Rio de Janeiro starring Lucio as one of the main heroes. Again, here’s hoping it’s more than just a wave-clearing activity. It’s likely it’ll have multiple stages, but there needs to be replayability to hook people in for the long term.

- A new game mode called “Push” is set to be unveiled and will join the likes of Assault, Control, Escort, and Hybrid. This new game mode will be set on a new map based in “Toronto”.

It’s difficult to predict what “Push” could mean, but it’s likely a fight for territory in classic Overwatch fashion.

- A new hero called “Echo” is due to be announced. She was originally unveiled during McCree’s animated short at BlizzCon last year, so it makes sense that she’s next in line to make it into the game.

- Both the PvE story and new game mode are expected to be playable at BlizzCon this weekend. Expect plenty of Twitch streams with developers, and deep dives too.
