About Ed Thorn

Ed's a huge fan of rushing B in CS:GO and grinding it out in Destiny 2. He will not rest until a new Wario Land is announced.

Our Black Forest guide contains all of the tips, tricks, tactics and strategy advice you need to know in order to master this map.

The launch of the new Anniversary patch for Overwatch has just added all sorts of new content to the game. While we've all learned to expect a heap of new cosmetic items with each update, we've actually got three new maps to play with now as well.

These maps are only available to play in the Arcade Mode - and are limited to 1 v 1 and 3 v 3 encounters only - but they're a pretty cool way of injecting some much-needed life into this corner of Overwatch. It's certainly a fitting way to mark the game's first birthday, and we're looking forward to getting stuck into them properly.

In this first edition of our Black Forest guide we've got a basic outline of what's involved, but we'll be adding a huge amount of extra information to this article over the next few hours and days. We'd love to hear your own tips in the comments, and we'll be sure to add them in with credit in a future update.

All of our Overwatch: Anniversary coverage

Overview

Black Forest is part of a new game mode called Lockout Elimination. In this mode, teams of 3 v 3 compete in a series of fights, where successful heroes are removed from later rounds.

In order to emerge victorious, you must defeat the enemy team a total of three times.

Here's the official description, straight from Blizzard:

"On the outskirts of Eichenwalde, the misty Black Forest map wraps around a long-overlooked battlefield dotted with the wreckage of Bastion units.

"Flank your opponents on pathways between the castle and woods, and use the wooden balconies to move between the second stories of houses throughout the forest."

Black Forest tips, tricks and tactics

It’s the smallest map of the bunch, with much of the fighting taking place in the crumbling castle in the middle. There aren’t many open spaces either so it’s likely that skirmishes will get pushed indoors. Flankers won’t be able to make the most of their mobility here, so it’s best to take heroes who can hold one position well or aren’t too reliant on healers.
