Magic: The Gathering Arena Card Reveal - Pestilent Haze

Magic: The Gathering's upcoming Core Set 2021 will be released soon, replacing the Core Set 2020. We've been given the opportunity to reveal a card to the you, so without further ado, here it is:

Pestilent Haze is a Black Sorcery, meaning it's a one-off effect when played, and it can only be cast in your phase of play when the stack is empty.

The spell has a level of versatility that might help control decks survive a bit longer. You get to choose one of two effects for the costs of 3 mana (2 Black).

The first allows you to decrease the power and toughness of every creature by -2/-2. This can let you get attacks off you might otherwise not have been able to, or even kill off enemy creatures with 2 or less toughness. You'll also be able to force unfavourable trades or delay enemy lethal for a while.

The other option lets you remove 2 loyalty counters from each Plainswalker, which looks to be nice and useful in decks where an enemy Plainswalker effect is running away with the game. Getting that extra damage in can reduce the enemy's options with the planeswalker, or even remove it from play outright.

We'll be keeping an eye on the whole Core Set 2021, especially Pestilent Haze. Check back here for more MTG Arena guides when the set is out!

Magic: The Gathering and MTG Arena's Core Set 2021 releases on July 3rd 2020.
