This article explains how to download Realm Royale on the PC, and will be updated with PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch instructions as they become available.

Realm Royale has been storming up the Twitch charts over the last couple of days, and it's safe to say that Hi-Rez Studios' twist on the Battle Royale formula is proving a refreshing change of pace for a genre that's starting to get just a little bit samey.

This is a fantasy-infused fight to the finish, with Mages, Warriors, Hunters and the like gathering gear, equipment and even abilities in order to become increasingly powerful. There's no building either, so if you fancy a free-to-play game with a similar style to Fortnite that doesn't have you constructing clumsy forts, then this is the game for you.

In this article we've outlined everything you need to do to install the game on your PC, with a few thoughts on what's likely to happen to the game's fortunes on console. Once we have more information on that front, we'll update the relevant section of the guide.

Good luck!

PC

Realm Royale is currently available to download on the Steam store as an Early Access title. For the uninitiated that means you can expect a few bugs as the final stages of development are ironed out, but for the most part we've found it to be a pretty stable game - even at this Alpha stage.

Once you're in the Steam store, simply search for Realm Royale and you'll see a green Play button just underneath the description of the game itself. Once you've selected it, you'll be prompted to install it in your games library - if memory serves us correctly the total download was just under 4GB.

Having downloaded and installed the game through this process, all you have to do is go to the Library section of the Steam interface, search for Realm Royale in the left-hand column, click on it and any final set up stages will be performed before the game itself is launched.

Once you're in, you're in! Before you fire up your first match, however, we highly recommend that you take a look through our core Realm Royale guide.

Although there's a lot that's familiar about this game if you've played the likes of Fornite and PUBG, there are some crucial differences involving crafting and character building that you really want to get a heads-up on before diving into your first match. That's if you don't want to get obliterated the minute you land, that is.

Keep that guide bookmarked as we're in the process of adding a huge amount of helpful information to Metabomb about Realm Royale. Everything we create that covers an area of the game will be added to that article, so you'll always be able to quickly find the latest tips and tricks to help you smash the competition to pieces.

PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch

Right now there is no way of playing Realm Royale on PS4, Xbox One, Switch or mobile devices but it is extremely likely that it will be released on other platforms at some point in the future, perhaps once the Alpha test is behind us.

Why? Well, the game behind this Battle Royale twist - Paladins - is available on PS4 and Xbox One and it has done extremely well as a free to play title on those systems. It's coming to the Switch as well next week, and it seems almost impossible to imagine Hi-Rez Studios passing up on the chance to cash in on the Battle Royale craze across multiple platforms.

Hi-Rez has yet to take Paladins to mobile devices, but given the success of Fortnite and PUBG on portable devices, we feel confident the studio has a team beavering away at making Realm Royale on the go a reality. Fingers crossed anyway.

Assuming the game does become available on consoles at some point, we'll update this article with more information on how to go about grabbing it from the various game stores, and installing it on your consoles.
