Our Fear the Wolves Early Access guide explains how to download and install the new Battle Royale game by the team behind the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series of games.

We've been keeping our eyes on Fear the Wolves for a little while now, as it promises to bring something a little bit different to the increasingly bloated Battle Royale genre. While it's true you've got the usual mass of players to eliminate in the quest to become top dog, there are a few extra twists to keep things fresh.

There are greater environmental threats to contend with for a start. As well as staying out of the obligatory radioactive "fog" which reduces the playable area over time, you'll also have to contend with packs of wolves and roaming mutants who are all pretty much hell-bent on chewing your face off.

You can also expect more precision-based, tactical shooting mechanics, with bullets landing squarely where they're aimed at and with zero random elements. All things considered we're expecting an extremely tense, highly tactical twist on the typical Battle Royale experience.

The game enters Early Access on Wednesday 18th July 2018, and in this article we'll explain exactly what you need to do to download the game and get stuck into what may well become the next big thing in 2018's Battle Royale craze.

When you're finished here, make sure you take a look at our in-depth Fear the Wolves guide. It contains everything we currently know about the game, and will be updated with a huge amount of gameplay help once the Early Access period actually begins.

Fear the Wolves Early Access Guide

Getting involved with the game is pretty easy and you simply need to complete the following steps. Keep in mind that the initial Early Access client for the game will only be available on Steam. We'll have to wait and see whether or not a beta is made available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at some point in the future.

  • Navigate to the game's page on the Steam shop or search for it within the Steam client itself.
  • The game will be available to buy and download at some point [TBC] on Wednesday 18th July.
  • Click on the blue button to add the game to your collection [Pricing: TBC]
  • Check for the installed game under your Steam library and then open the client.
