Our Fallout 76: How to save guide explains how to save the game so you don’t lose hours of progress.

You can lose track of time exploring the wasteland in Fallout 76, to the point where you’ll realise you need to take care of something in real life (what a pain), and turn off your console in a mad scramble without really thinking. In most cases, Fallout 76 will save the game for you automatically thanks to the cloud, but it’s always nice to know that you’re save file is safe and sound before logging off.

Below we’ve put together a guide that’ll take you through how to save the game in Fallout 76, so you can ensure your save file is nailed down nice and securely.

How to save in Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is an online service, which means that Bethesda backs up your game files on its cloud servers. Essentially, you don’t need to worry too much as it’ll automatically save the game for you as you explore the wasteland. This does mean that there’s no manual save feature, though. For those of us who like to ensure that their save files have been logged before signing out, this isn’t ideal.

Thankfully, there are a few of ways to make sure your game has saved properly.

One way to bring up the reassuring cog is to fast travel to a location. It’ll force the game into saving once you’ve arrived, and it’ll allow you to pick up the game from a convenient point too.

Another surefire way of saving the game is to exit Fallout 76 from the options menu. Simply select “Quit Game” and it’ll safely wind down proceedings, and ensure your save file is logged before bringing you back to the title screen.

Finally, loading into a building or completing a quest will also save the game. These count as “significant” moments in a way, so you can rest easy if you’ve encountered both of these before a sudden blackout.
