The 2019 LCS Spring Finals will take place in St. Louis at the Chaifetz Arena on April 13th . Riot Games confirmed the news in an official blog post on its site this weekend.
In a departure from previous seasons, Riot Games is trying something new with the Spring Finals this time. Significantly, it's removing the 3rd/4th place matches from the tournament, which means only the top two teams in North America will compete for the title of Spring Split Champion, and the opportunity to compete at MSI.
Riot has also decided to remove the 3rd/4th place matches due to “underwhelming matchups and diminished fan interest due to the lower stakes”. Instead, it’s working on replacing them with a “fan fest” event which would feature teams, pros, sponsors and the community.
If you were wondering why St. Louis's been chosen as the venue, it’s because Riot Games has a long history in the Midwest and opened one of its first offices there. What’s more, it’s also easy for fans from multiple areas of the US to reach, making it the perfect spot for a big event such as this.
Ticket information will be released on 25th February, so you’ll have to wait a little bit longer if you’re itching to secure a seat.
In the meantime, the LCS Spring Split is already underway. You can catch up on all the action over on our LCS 2019 guide which contains all the teams, a schedule of the matches, results and the VODs to go along with them.
