League of Legends: How to get a PBE account

Here's how to gain access.

If you want to try out all the very latest Champions, map changes and item tweaks before they go live in League of Legends - or Teamfight Tactics, for that matter - then you’ll want to gain access to the League of Legends Public Beta Environment (PBE).

Trouble is, you can’t stroll into the PBE. You need to meet some requirements and navigate your way through Riot’s finicky website to download the separate client and install it. Essentially, it’s a bit of a nightmare if you’re new to League of Legends.

To help you out, we’ve put together a guide on how to get access to the PBE so you can try out all the latest additions to League and TFT.

League of Legends: How to get a PBE account

Here's a step by step guide to get you setup with a PBE account:

How to gain access

First things first, you’ll need to play Summoner’s Rift games in League of Legends and reach Honor Level 2. Your account must also have good standing, meaning no bans in its history.

At the end of matches, players can honor one another for decent teamplay, good shotcalling and the like. If players choose to honor you, your Honor Level will begin to climb. However, there’s no way to tell what your level actually is - cheers Riot.

The only way to get an inkling of your Honor Level is to keep an eye for notifications in your League client. If you’re made progress you’ll be gifted a Key Fragment.

There’s no easy way to go about levelling up your Honor apart from playing matches of League to the best of your ability. We’ve found choosing Support as a role, going into the bottom lane and helping out your ADC will increase your chances of at least getting one honor at the end of a match.

How to download and install the PBE client

If you believe you’ve hit Honor Level 2, head on over to the PBE signup page and login with your existing League of Legends account details. Make sure you choose the correct region from the drop down menu before hitting “login”.

Next, you’ll be taken to a “Check my eligibility” screen. Hit this button and Riot will check to see if you’re able to get PBE access.

From here, it’s a case of creating a PBE account by following the steps on screen.

Once you’re done, hit the “Download the PBE client” button for whichever platform you’re playing on: Windows/Mac.

Next, login with your new PBE credentials and you’ll be good to go.

Finally, it’s worth noting that you can only have one PBE account per live account.

More great League of Legends guides:

How does the PBE work?

- Your PBE account will automatically start at level 30, and you’ll have none of the content you’ve earned on your live account.

- You’ll have access to a large amount of RP, so you can buy newly released Champions from the Riot Games store for free.

- As it’s a test environment, don’t be afraid to report bugs and submit feedback. To do so, head on over to the official PBE FAQ page and it has all the links you could need.
