Here’s the new Ashes of Outland Warlock Legendary - Keli'dan the Breaker. It’s looking like a strong one.
Often, Hearthstone cards are valued on their versatility, and their ability to be used in all sorts of situations. Keli'dan the Breaker looks like a terrifying prospect, and one that’ll see a lot of play in a host of Warlock decks in the upcoming Ashes of Outland expansion.
Hearthstone Card Reveal - Keli'dan the Breaker
Here’s Keli'dan in all his destructive glory. Check out those big ol’ hands:
Keli'dan the Breaker is the jailer of Magtheridon, and used his own blood to create Outland’s fel orcs. He’s a pretty gross dude in general.
A 6 mana 3/3, his power obviously lies in his Battlecry effect. If you play him the same turn he’s drawn, you can just completely clear the board of all minions aside from him, leaving you with a 3/3 on an empty board. It’s the perfect topdeck against aggro decks looking to take you down with a flooded board, and turn 6 is usually when you’ll be needing him urgently.
With Demon Hunter coming into Hearthstone, we’re going to be seeing a whole lot of aggro, token-based strategies early on, so we’ll be interested to see whether a control-style Warlock deck will take hold of the meta.
It’s looking like Valdris Felgorge’s Handlock archetype is getting another weapon, particularly with Warlock’s ability to use Life Tap and all its other card drawing tools to increase the chances of you triggering Keli'dan the Breaker’s full-on Battlecry effect.
Lord Godfrey is rotating out of Standard format with the release of Ashes of Outland, so the Warlock class will need some level of conditional board clearing, and Keli'dan is a perfect replacement.
Even if you can’t trigger the full board clear, or if the board isn’t threatening enough, Keli'dan the Breaker doesn’t lose usefulness, as you can always keep him in hand to guarantee removal of a big enemy threat. In some ways, he’s an upgrade on most AOE removal, given his simultaneous ability to act as a fairly cheap single-target removal that leaves a body on the board.
We’re excited to see how things go with Keli'dan. He’s a useful card to have in all control Warlock decks, since both single-target removal and board clearing are so important to the class. Look out, aggro decks. This’ll be like your opponent topdecking Flamestrike, but it’ll feel a thousand times worse.
