While we've all been stuffing our faces with a huge amount of Standard ladder action over the last week or two, we've started to find ourselves dabbling in Arena a little more each day.
While there are only a couple of show-stopping new Arena Legendaries from the Un'Goro set specifically, we thought it might be useful to highlight some of the very best ones you should be looking out for when you're drafting your next deck.
When exactly you receive these cards in the drafting process will effect their “real-world” value to you, of course. A card that ideally requires a specific deck type or enabler, for example, is more welcome when it's found towards the start of the draft, when you've still got time to find the cards that support it.
With that small caveat out of the way, here are the 7 Un'Goro Legendary cards we think you should be keeping your fingers crossed for when you begin your next draft.
Elise the Trailblazer - Neutral
This one's included here mainly for fun, as we find it hard to pass up on getting a grab at some random Un'Goro cards, and really unsettling the match for everyone. It goes without saying that in general Elise suits more control-orientated decks, so you're not going to make room for her in your cold-blooded face deck. Pick something that synergises more naturally with your deck if you have the option.
Tyrantus - Druid
While not the most exciting card in the world by any means, this behemoth of a Beast may be just what you need for a last-gasp blunder across the finishing line. In terms of the Druid's best Arena Legendaries, this one's pretty far down the list, although it will still justify a spot in a deck that drafts heavily into Beast synergies.
Lyra the Sunshard - Priest
Any card that has reasonably decent stats and can also assist with card draw is a solid pick, and Lyra the Sunshard plays nicely with the Priest's selection of spells. Whether or not you're going to be able to draft a reasonably competitive deck that plays into this cards' strengths is another matter, but Lyra's the top pick of the new Legendary cards for the Priest at least.
King Mosh - Warrior
This one request a little planning if you're to see the benefit of its Battlecry effect go off. If you haven't been lucky enough to draw a Whirlwind - allowing you to play this spell card and King Mosh together on Turn 10 - you'll need to trade minions carefully to maximise this creature's effectiveness on an earlier turn. Note also that this Beast will wipe out your damaged minions as well!
Sunkeeper Tarim - Paladin
If the board's got away from you, then Sunkeeper Tarim does a good job of setting you on the path towards calming things down a little. Without a weapon or a clear, your opponent will have to sacrifice a fair few minions to deal with this taunt. A more likely scenario, however, is that you'll use this card to boost up a decent presence of minor minions on your side of the board.
Kalimos, Primal Lord - Shaman
You can find some cheap ways of triggering the Elemental-fuelled Battlecry of Kalimos, Primal Lord when drafting the remainder of your deck, so you shouldn't find it too hard to get the extra Invocation value. Not only does this minion represent a pretty powerful board presence in its own right, you have the option to activate one of the following 0 Mana bonus effects when you put it into play:
- Invocation of Air: Deal 3 damage to all enemy minions
- Invocation of Earth: Fill your board with 1/1 Elementals
- Invocation of Water: Restore 12 Health to your hero
- Invocation of Fire: Deal 6 damage to the enemy hero
Pyros - Mage
Pyros' innate value in Arena is pretty obvious, and the value it represents as a creature that returns to your hand - in enlarged form - on death is too good for anyone to pass up. If it's not silenced or transformed somehow, this card is going to come back to haunt your opponent all throughout the match. Don't forget of course that its classification as an Elemental card gives it additional synergy value in the drafting process too, and can trigger other cards throughout the early, mid and late stages of the game.
That's our pick of the best Un'Goro Legendaries for Arena. What are yours?
