Nefarian Rising strategy guide

How to beat Hearthstone's latest co-op encounter

This week's Tavern Brawl sees the return of co-op combat after a very long break. This time around you'll both be thrown into an encounter with Nefarian – one of you as a Shaman, your partner as Priest – and between the two of you you'll have to bust your way through the enemy's 200 points of Health.

Winning is by no means an easy feat, as Nefarian himself grows in attacking strength throughout the encounter, and also has access to a collection of devastating spells which are capable of wrecking your well-laid plans.

Never fear! Our Nefarian Rising guide will walk you through the ins and outs of winning the match, and bagging your free pack of cards for this week.

Official description

“Join forces with a friend to take down Nefarian. Again. Anduin teams up with newcomer Morgl in this new cooperative Tavern Brawl!”

Tips and strategy advice

Nefarian himself changes throughout the fight and has three different phases.

Phase 1) He starts the fight as a 200 Health taunt minion with 0 Attack power.

Phase 2) At 160 Health, his Attack increases to 5 and he delivers an AOE attack that will likely wipe both sides of the board.

Phase 3) At 60 Health, his Attack increases to 10 and he will again likely wipe the board with an AOE blast.

  • The Priest's priority is to get a solid minion out in play and then continue applying buffs to it in order to keep it in the fight.
  • Because of Nefarian's AOE damage, it's vital that the Shaman maintains a busy board, with lots of minions to soak up that damage.
  • Do as much damage as you can to Nefarian as quickly as possible in order to rush the fight. We nearly lost to the Fatigue system in our first attempt as we didn't focus damage quickly enough.
  • If one of you – most likely the Shaman – has a full board, Nefarian will wipe out every minion on that side of the board to make space for himself! Never have more than six minions out at any one time.
