About James Law

James can usually be found wearing dungarees, playing Hearthstone, drinking coffee, or all of the above. For his sins, he has been cursed to forever main heavies in Smash.

The Fortnite World Cup is on the horizon, beginning on Friday 26th July and running until Sunday 28th July. With its $30 million prize pool, competitors have it all to play for in New York's Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Epic Games will be streaming the event on its Youtube and Twitch channels, as well as in-game for us mere mortal Fortnite players who want to see how it’s done. You can see the full schedule on Epic Games’ website.

The event will feature the World Cup Creative finals first, starting at 1pm EST/6pm BST. 8 teams of 4, led by popular personalities including Ninja and FaZe Cizzorz will fight it out for the $3 million prize pool. You can watch a recap of the Creative Trials here to whet your appetite.

The Fortnite Pro-Am begins at 4pm EST/9pm BST on Friday 26th July, and features pairs of Fortnite pros and celebrities. Ever wanted to watch WWE wrestler Xavier Woods take on the best Fortnite players in the world? Make sure you tune in for that, although it’d be similarly entertaining for them to take the fight to Woods’ home turf.

Once the pre-show is done, the real action begins. Players online have been striving for weeks to reach the top of their game, and the cream of the crop have got to the home stretch. From 1pm EST/6pm BST on Saturday 27th July, the Duos finals games will begin, and the victor will be crowned at 4:45pm.

Finally, the part everyone is waiting for, the Solo finals take place on the final day, Sunday 28th July, also at 1pm EST/6pm BST. You can see the finalists listed in our Fortnite World Cup guide. Players will have 6 matches to score as many points as possible. The scoring system is as follows:

  • Victory Royale: 10 Points
  • 2nd - 5th: 7 Points
  • 6th - 15th: 5 Points
  • 16th - 25th: 3 Points
  • Each Elimination: 1 Point

Out of tens of millions of players, these are the last few to survive. Tune in for some ludicrously impressive gameplay, both with guns and blueprints.
