Our Destiny 2: Poor Reception walkthrough guide explains exactly how to defend the signal antenna, defeat the captain and stop the feedback source.
The Fallen are attempting to block all communications in the EDZ and Hawthorne needs you to find the source of the interference and put an end to it. It’s a mission you’ll encounter early in the game, but one that’s surprisingly difficult if you’re not prepared for the task.
At first it seems like a normal, run of the mill mission, but as time goes by it descends - literally - into a challenging hunt for the signal. You’ll have to hold off waves of enemies, explore a Lost Sector, and defeat a pretty tough Fallen Captain. Not to worry though, as we’ve put together a handy step by step guide which’ll get you through this mission in no time.

Investigate the feedback and defend the signal antenna
Once the mission kicks off, proceed straight ahead towards the river. You’ll need to shoot Fallen Shanks here until they drop an “Intact Shank Core”.
When you get your hands on one another marker will appear on your map, leading you towards a small cliff edge. It’s a case of making your way towards it and the “Location source” percentage will begin rising once you arrive.
Simply stay near the top and pick off enemies as they begin climbing their way up to you. Although it may be tempting, don’t get too trigger happy and run into the fray - it’s a surefire way of getting swamped by the Fallen mobs.
Stick around and hold off the resistance until your reach 100%. Once this happens, you’ll have to find the feedback source.
Find the feedback source and defeat the Captains
Head down the hill and follow the marker into a clearly marked Lost Sector entrance. Follow the tunnel all the way in until Ghost comments on the Fallen banners. Hop up to the entrance on the right, and you’ll be tasked with bypassing the barrier.
We recommend clearing this section of Fallen trash, staying at your elevated position at the top and spraying down your enemies below. Once you’ve whittled down the numbers, hop down and deal with the stragglers until you get a prompt to face off against the Captain.
He’ll appear as a marker on your map and we recommend blasting his grill with a close range power weapon to finish him off quickly. Usually this enemy spawns at the glowing blue wall at the top right side of the area - it’ll disappear when you drop him.
Once you’ve dealt with him, proceed into the next area. You’ll have to carry out exactly the same task, so rinse and repeat the previous steps.
Stop the feedback
Make your way into the next area and clear the trash that’ll spawn in. This is your first priority as it’s all prep work for the final battle to come.
Now it’s time to take on a mini-boss Captain this time. He’s pretty strong, so keep your distance, switch to an energy weapon and take down his shield first. Once it’s down, pepper him in the head with a weapon of your choice.
Stay on the move and drop grenades on him when he’s stood still - or Super him if you’ve got it up. Otherwise, prioritise taking his shield down swiftly as soon as it’s up, and hit him hard when it’s down. Eventually you’ll topple him!
When he’s down you’ve completed the mission - nice work.
