Our Destiny 2 Season of the Drifter guide contains everything you need to know about all the new activities coming with the Season of the Drifter DLC, including Gambit Prime, The Reckoning as well all the new weapons, armour and gameplay updates too.

If Destiny 2’s last expansion was all about chucking orbs at a forge to create new weapons, Season of the Drifter promises more - ahem - exciting content for us to get stuck into.

As you’ve probably guessed, Season of the Drifter will deliver content in the same “drip-feed” manner as Black Armory. Bit by bit, week by week, Destiny 2 will be updated with new events and challenges for us to complete.

This time it largely centers around PVE/PVP mode Gambit, and the story of the mysterious bloke behind it all. There’s also a brand new addition to the Destiny endgame featuring the Nine, PVE battles and extra powerful gear drops.

Below we’ll take you through everything you need to know about Destiny 2’s upcoming DLC, Season of the Drifter.

We'll update this guide once the Season of the Drifter launches and we've had a chance to jump in ourselves. Keep this page bookmarked for all the latest!

Season of the Drifter: Release date

The Season of the Drifter is due to launch on March 5th and Bungie will keep dropping additional content every week until May 6th.

Here’s the official Season of the Drifter timeline to give you a better idea of what’s releasing when:

Season of the Drifter: All new activities

Here’s a quick overview of all the new activities which will be introduced with the Season of the Drifter:

Gambit Prime

Gambit takes center stage in Season of the Drifter. Namely, it’ll receive a few tweaks which should make it a more balanced, enjoyable game mode overall. What’s more, there will be four new armour sets with Gambit-specific perks which will make the PVE/PVP mode even more competitive.

One of the biggest changes to Gambit is match length. Now each match only last one round which should make things far more meaningful and exciting, while eliminating the fatigue which came from a drawn out best of three.

Below we’ve rounded up all the other changes too:

  • Players can now drain motes from an enemy team’s bank.
  • Primeval bosses at the end are tougher and will require more teamwork to take down.
  • There will be Gambit private matches.
  • There are two new maps coming to Gambit, one set on Mars, the other on Titan.
  • New Gambit weapons will be arriving.

The Reckoning

The Reckoning is a pinnacle PVE experience which will become progressively harder as more tiers unlock throughout the season.

It seems to be a race against the clock to clear as many waves as possible in a PVE space, and according to the devs, “Every week as you play through reckoning you’re going to come out with more and more pieces of armour for Gambit Prime”.

Gameplay Updates

Bungie’s learned from it’s past mistakes with Black Armory and is making sure that anyone who owns the Annual Pass will gain access to the Season of the Drifter content as soon as it drops.

This time there will be Power Surge Bounties available which will allow players to catch up with Guardians and reach level 50, Power Level 640 as soon as possible.

Iron Banner will also return, and new Exotic Weapons and Armour will also be making an appearance too.
