About Ed Thorn

Ed joined Metabomb in May 2017 and puts together many guides across the site.

Our Destiny 2: Forsaken guide contains everything you need to know about Destiny 2’s huge fall expansion including details on the release time, Last Wish Raid, all the new changes and the Annual Pass.

It’s no secret that Destiny 2’s been through the ringer as of late, with Bungie scrambling to jam in content that the community actually wants into a game that essentially ignored its fan base since the highly disappointing Curse of Osiris DLC prompted some serious backlash.

If Destiny 2’s second DLC Warmind felt like the game was finally turning a corner, Forsaken’s shaking off all the baggage and kicking it to the curb. Bungie’s promised that this new expansion will be giving players what they’ve been asking for with the developers saying, “All the feedback we’ve heard the past year, it’s in Forsaken”.

There's a huge amount of content to digest with this new expansion and we've put together a guide that'll take you through all the new changes that are coming with Forsaken, including details on the release time, new endgame area, Raid and systems tweaks. Buckle in because there's a lot to get through!

UPDATE: At the top of this guide you'll find all the info you need on Forsaken's release time. As you scroll down, you'll see all the latest information on Forsaken from Bungie interviews, livestreams and more. Once the expansion goes live, we'll give this guide an overhaul and break it down into specific categories explaining all the new content that's been introduced. Stay tuned!

Forsaken: Release Time - When will Forsaken go live?

Destiny's big Forsaken update is just on the horizon, so here are all the details on when you can hop in to sample all the brand new content.

Login right this second and you'll begin installing update 2.0.0 which introduces a swathe of changes. Some of these will go live the moment you load up the game, while others will sit dormant until Forsaken launches on the 4th September.

So, on expansion launch day, you'll need to download a day 1 patch before you can head into game. Server maintenance will kick off at 7AM PT, 10AM ET, 3PM BST and is scheduled to finish three hours later at 10AM PT, 1PM ET and 6PM BST.

While we're not sure how big the day one patch will be, it's likely going to take some time to download. If you want to access the game as soon as Forsaken goes live, make sure you boot up your system early so it'll download the patch automatically once maintenance kicks off.

Our Forsaken release time - US, UK & Europe page contains the maintenance schedule and a list of release times no matter wherever you are in the world!

For a complete list of all the changes introduced with patch 2.0.0, head on over to Bungie's official announcement page.

Forsaken: New Content Roundup

This expansion's a big one and there's been a constant dripfeed of new info over the last few months. Before it drops, we've tried our best to get together all the key "stuff" that'll be coming to Destiny 2 with Forsaken.

So without further ado, here's a snapshot of all the content that's arriving with Forsaken.

New Raid: Last Wish

Destiny 2 will have a new Raid that's located in the Awoken homeland, The Dreaming City.

Luke Smith revealed details on the Raid's launch date and time via Twitter.

There's also a new trailer which gives a glimpse into all the puzzles you'll be solving and all the nasties lurking inside both the Dreaming City and Last Wish.

Raiders will actually affect the Raid itself and it'll change dynamically as time goes by. So much so that the Last Wish we see at launch will be different to that of the Last Wish we'll see two or three weeks later. New secrets will come to light, passageways will open and we expect some exciting new encounters too.

New End Game Area - The Dreaming City

There's a brand new end-game area called the Dreaming City. It's said to be packed with all sorts of hidden pathways, secrets and tonnes of bosses.

There looks to be a "horde" mode style challenge in this area, and it'll definitely be home to many other public events and other activities too.

New Game Mode - Gambit

It's a mixture of both PVE and PVP where two teams fight enemies in separate arenas and earn tokens to power up a machine which'll spawn blockers on the opposing side. Once one side has desposited enough crests, it'll summon a boss called a Primeevil. The side that destroys this boss first wins the round. You can also invade other teams to disrupt their flow and gain an advantage too!

General Updates - Playable areas, enemy types, gear and more...

  • There's a brand new area called The Tangled Shore which is where players will be spending the majority of their time.
  • The Scorn have been introduced as a brand new enemy type. They're like a barbaric Fallen-esque race. Of course, you'll be facing off against all the other enemy races too.
  • There are nine new Supers.
  • More Vault Space, in-game Triumphs and Lore Sections will be available.
  • There's a new Legendary Bow weapon archetype.
  • New Legendary and Exotic Gear.
  • New Story Missions, Adventures, Public Events and activities in general.
  • There are Eight Barons to defeat in the story and you'll be able to choose how to go about it. It's not entirely linear.
  • Random Rolls are returning for weapons. The mod system is being upgraded. You will be able to wield a combination of whatever weapons you want.
  • Time to kill in the Crucible has been reduced.
  • Daily Heroic Story Missions are on the way, as well as Daily Challenges.
  • Four new Strikes.

Annual Pass - 3 DLCs

  • If you've purchased the annual pass, you'll gain instant access to 3 DLCs releasing late 2018 and into 2019.
  • Here's the release schedule: Black Armory in Winter 2018, Joker's Wild in Spring 2019 and Penumbra in Summer 2019.
  • It's safe to say that Destiny 2's first two DLCs didn't go down too well. Bungie attempted to introduce two expansive stories into the game's universe in a short space of time, essentially biting off more than they could chew and delivering lackluster campaigns in the process. The Annual Pass isn't focusing on sweeping stories, but meaningful injections of content that players have actually been asking for. Black Armory's dedicated to placing a tonne of secret quests into the game world for example!

Forsaken: Bungie Combat Reveal Livestream Roundup (7th August 2018)

Bungie went ahead and revealed a tonne of changes that will be going live when Forsaken lands in September. There was a focus on combat tweaks during its livestream reveal, with weapon mods, time-to-kill (TTK) and Crucible all highlighted. Of course, let's not forget a few major Sandbox changes too!

Video by PlanetDestiny

Here's a roundup of all the important info from the livestream:

  • Random weapon rolls are returning!
  • There are many more weapon mod options for each weapon. Weapons drop with mods equipped, and disenchanted weapons will drop their associated mods.
  • Any weapons you've got that can swap elements will not be able to once Forsaken drops. The element you've got it set to right now will be the element it uses in the future.
  • There are many weapon traits returning from the original Destiny.
  • Masterworks can now be upgraded all the way to level 10. The higher the level, the better the stats.
  • Time to kill in the Crucible has been reduced.
  • The Titan's Ward of Dawn will be much stronger. It's going to be significantly harder for enemies to destroy, allies inside the bubble will have a stronger overshield as well as buffed melee damage.

Forsaken: Interview Roundup (26th June 2018)

More juicy details have been revealed for Destiny's upcoming expansion in GamesRadar's interview with Bungie.

Below we've summarised many of the key points that Planet Destiny put together based on the initial interview. It's all extremely exciting and we hope it marks a real turning point for the game.

  • Cayde-6 is being killed off - yes that's right. It's essentially Bungie's way of setting the darker tone of the DLC and initiating a tale of revenge too. We'll be setting out to avenge his death throughout Forsaken and it'll be our main motive when taking out bosses and completing missions.
  • We'll be able to progress through Forsaken's story in a non-linear fashion. You'll be able to pick and choose which Baron you want to go after and how you want to go about it.
  • The Dreaming City is home to the Raid, so players shouldn't expect a completely linear experience when working through the challenge. The Raid itself wil trickle out onto the island around the Raid, meaning that we'll be able to explore the Awoken homeland as well as potentially participate in additional single player or group activities too.
  • Daily Heroic Story missions are on the way, as well as other daily challenges.
  • There are four new Strikes in Forsaken, with one of them being a Sony exclusive.
  • There are nine new Supers.
  • Year One gear will keep the same perks, but will be infusable. You can bring them up to the Power cap if you want, however, and they'll likely be reassigned to different slots when you login on the day.
  • Void Hunters will be able to see through walls with a special ability!

Forsaken: Initial Reveal Breakdown

What new content will be introduced with Forsaken?

There are two new in-game destinations, a new game mode called Gambit and a brand new campaign to sink your teeth into.

Below we've broken down all the key details for you in easy to read sections.

New Features

  • This DLC will have a grittier, darker tone with the developers describing this DLC as having a “Western revenge vibe”.
  • The story will involve heading back to The Reef and chasing down escapees from the Prison of Elders.
  • The Reef’s new location is entitled the Tangled Shore and you’ll be fending off Cabal, Fallen, Vex, Taken and a brand new faction called the Scorn.
  • There's a total of eight Barons who you'll be hunting down in the new DLC, which essentially means eight new and exciting boss fights to take part in!
  • The restrictive weapon system has been lifted. You can now use whatever weapon combinations you want, three shotguns? Sure!
  • Random rolls are returning for Legendary weapons. Mods and Masterworks will also be tweaked to further increase your customisation options.
  • You’ll be able to catalogue everything you earn in the game. There’ll be more Vault Space, in-game Triumphs and Lore Sections too.
  • There are new Supers for all of the Subclasses. Firey Knives for the Hunter Gunslinger, a firey hammer for the Titan Sunbreaker, a dive bomb for the Titan Striker, super powerful teleports for the Warlock Voidwalker, a twirly deflective Hunter Arcstrider move and an Arc beam maneuver for the Warlock Stormcaller. We expect to see more for the others too!
  • There will be some mixing and matching between Subclass perks. Footage shows the Stormcaller Warlock using the Voidcaller's Devour skill.
  • Bows and Arrows are the new weapon type coming with Forsaken. They come in short, mid and long range variants and look super powerful.
  • It goes without saying that there will be all new Legendary and Exotic gear to collect!
  • Bungie says that it ultimately wants to bring back Destiny as a "hobby". It wants there to be enough depth in the game for players to keep on coming back week on week.

Gambit PVE/PVP Mode

  • There’s a brand new game mode called Gambit. It’s a mixture of both PVE and PVP where two teams fight enemies in separate arenas, earn tokens to power up a machine which’ll spawn blockers on the opposing side. Once one side has deposited enough crests, it’ll summon a boss called a Primevil. The side that destroys this boss first wins that round. You can also invade other teams and cause havoc too!

The Dreaming City Raid

  • There’s a new Raid called The Dreaming City where you’ll be visiting the homeland of the Awoken faction.
  • It’s said to be filled with all sorts of hidden pathways, secrets and tonnes of bosses.
  • The developers have described it as like "If The Vault of Glass and the Dreadnought had a baby, but if they were twins, and you took those twins and put them on the doorstep of Peter Jackson, and he raised them as his own".
  • The terms, "Magical", "Weird" and "Mysterious" have also been used to summarise The Dreaming City.
  • Raiders will actually affect The Dreaming City itself, and it'll change dynamically as time goes by. The Dreaming City that we'll see at launch will be different to that of The Dreaming City we'll see two or three weeks later. New secrets will open, passageways will suddenly come to light and we expect some exciting new encounters too.
