About Ed Thorn

Ed joined Metabomb in May 2017 and puts together guides and news across the site.

Filip “Neo” Kubski has joined FaZe Clan and replaces Dauren “AdreN” Kystaubayev as the new in-game leader.

The announcement via FaZe Clan’s social media channels state that Neo “begins his role as a substitute effective immediately”, which suggests that he might not have a permanent slot on the team just yet.

HLTV.org’s report also reaffirms Neo’s position on the team, as it received confirmation from FaZe Clan’s Nikola “Niko” Kovac that he’s currently on trial with the squad.

Neo will be taking over the in-game leadership role from AdreN, having been out of action for at least six months since he departed Virtus.pro. He’ll be making his debut with FaZe this week in ECS Season 7 and his first big test will be the DreamHack Masters Dallas which begins on 28th May.

Let’s not forget about AdreN who was contracted to FaZe on a temporary basis. It’s unclear where he will go from here, but he certainly put in some brilliant performances with the Clan, having captured the Blast Pro Series Miami title in April.

Those who’ve followed the CS competitive scene for a while will no doubt be excited to see Neo join such a star studded European roster. He’s a veteran of the scene having played for the legendary Virtus.pro roster, which picked up numerous premier titles as well as the ESL Major Series One Katowice 2014 trophy.

As with all roster moves, it will take time for FaZe Clan to gel with their new teammate so don’t expect a string of wins right from the get-go. If there’s one roster who’s used to change, it’s FaZe Clan, though. In their quest to achieve a Major title, they’ve gone through a number of iterations.

Perhaps Neo is the key to aligning all the individual talent, realising their potential and breaking the Major curse. We’ll find out soon enough.
