Having entered the IEM Katowice Major as the number one seeds, fnatic actually ended day one in a surprising position, and on the brink of elimination.

It all came down to a clash with Greyhound Gaming to determine who would leave the competition, but fnatic managed to find their form just in time, knocking Greyhound out with a convincing 2-0 victory.

Fnatic raced to a 13-2 lead on the first map, and despite conceding a few rounds it was pretty much plain sailing to take the first point. Map two was a much closer affair, but fnatic still managed to pull away as the match matured, and ultimately sealed the match win with a 16-11 finish.

Fnatic now move into day three’s 1-2 pool and will play G2 in a face off between some of CS:GO’s most decorated players.

Elsewhere, FURIA sent home Team Spirit and also clawed their way into the 1-2 pool. They will be facing off against Cloud9, while NiP and Vega Squadron do battle in a rematch of the ELEAGUE Major 2017 qualifier encounter which saw NiP’s early exit.

Both NRG and Renegades topped the New Challengers stage with three straight wins, which means they advance to the New Legends stage of the competition.

Here are all the matchups for day three of the IEM Katowice Major:

2-1 pool

  • ENCE vs Winstrike
  • Vitality vs ViCi

1-2 pool

  • Cloud9 vs FURIA
  • G2 vs Fnatic
  • NiP vs Vega Squadron
