About James Law

James can usually be found wearing dungarees, playing Hearthstone, drinking coffee, or all of the above. For his sins, he has been cursed to forever main heavies in Smash.

A Modern Warfare Battle Royale is the request on everyone's lips - here's what we know so far.

In today’s gaming environment, everyone wants a piece of Fortnite’s Battle Royale pie. Blackout was the Call of Duty series’ take on the genre, but there’s a chance it comes back as part of the Modern Warfare franchise’s reboot.

Will Modern Warfare 2019 have Battle Royale?

UPDATE: November 2019

In a Reddit post by Senescallo, datamined information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s upcoming Battle Royale mode was revealed. Of course, none of this information is confirmed, so take it all with a pinch of salt, but a whole lot of map locations, points of interest, respawn information and options can be found in the post.

What we’re most intrigued by is the Gulag. Dead players will be sent there for a 1v1, single round fight to the death, wherein the winner will be allowed to respawn. Players will even be able to spectate the Gulag fights while they’re waiting their turn, as well as betting their Plunder on the winner.

Sometimes, a Jail Break happens, allowing everyone out of the Gulag and back onto the map as well, which will doubtless turn the tide of many a match. Your teammates will need to get a Respawn Token and drop your body next to an ambulance in order to access the Gulag, and after you’ve been resurrected once you’re unable to do it again.

Speaking of the map, it’s going to be enormous. The leak revealed a default of 200 players, with the options of solos, duos and 4-player squads. There are Zones across the map, including the Quarry, TV Station and Dam, as well as Points of Interest, like the Gun Store and Police Station. These POIs are likely where we’ll see the highest abundance of loot, so expect a lot of battles to go on there.

We’re expecting the mode to launch some time early next year, and will have more information for you right here as soon as we know more!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Royale speculation

The fact that there is already a 64-player Ground War mode in the game indicates that large-scale matches are already possible within the game’s systems, and we already have parachutes and a large map from that game mode. There is also a huge area in which Spec Ops will take place, so it’s not like there’s nowhere to go for a Battle Royale.

In a video from TheGamingRevolution, it was claimed that the map will include some of the most iconic areas from Call of Duty, in a similar manner to Blackout. There’s also the potential for a money/cash system in game, giving the map focal points which promise for some exciting action.

More recently, it’s been all but confirmed that a Battle Royale is coming in the game’s future, given data found in the game’s code described in a video by Drift0r. Apparently, there are hints of a BR map separate from the standard multiplayer maps and the maps of all other game modes. There’s also clues to indicate players will jump from an AC-130 aircraft as it flies across the map, with the flight path visible on the minimap just like every other Battle Royale ever.

We’ll keep you updated when we know more about Modern Warfare’s Battle Royale mode. In the meantime, we’ve got more guides, including how to use crossplay in Modern Warfare, as well as release information.
