About Ed Thorn

Ed's a huge fan of rushing B in CS:GO and grinding it out in Destiny 2. He will not rest until a new Wario Land is announced.

Our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare guide details guns, perks, progression, crossplay and more.

Call of Duty’s next title is - rather confusingly - entitled Modern Warfare. It’s not a sequel to the Modern Warfare series of old, but a complete reboot of the franchise, with a brand new engine and plenty of revamped gameplay mechanics.

It’s traded in its previously arcadely visuals for more mature, realistic FPS action that’s grounded in today’s headlines. There’s also a campaign this time and the multiplayer harks back to the days of old. No more jump jets, wall rides or whatever else was in the last few games. Point and shoot is back in a good way.

To help you get up to speed with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, we’ve put together a guide which gathers everything you need to know about the game. As more content drops, we’ll be sure to update this page accordingly - stay tuned!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Guides Hub

Here’s a roundup of all the pages we’ve put together so far. As we spend more time with the game, we’ll update this section. Keep your eyes peeled for more helpful guides!

What are the best guns?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is home to a host of guns, but it can be difficult to know which ones are better than others. Our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Guns Tier List - Best Primary Weapons page breaks this info down for you, and it’ll be constantly updated as the meta changes.

How does progression work?

This time, there’s no Prestige when you hit Rank 55, but a new Officer ranking filled with additional loot. On top of this, there are camos, perks and tonnes of other things to work towards as you earn XP in Modern Warfare. Our Ranks and Progression page will help you get to grips with this confusing system.

What are the best loadouts for beginners?

Starting out in Modern Warfare's multiplayer modes can be pretty difficult. You don't have access to many attachments, guns, perks or killstreaks so securing those frags and earning XP doesn't come easily. This means you've got to make the most of what you're given and find the optimal builds to do so. Well, we've put together a Best Beginner Loadouts page which should get you on the right track!

What are Trials?

Once you've reached level 55, you'll have even more options for rank progression. Trials are a big one here, so we've put together a page detailing everything you need to know about these extra missions. We'll keep it updated too, so check out our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Trials guide!

What perks are there?

Just like weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, there’s a huge amount of perks to choose from. Operator perks augment your character with useful abilities, like being able to sprint faster, or prevent detection from enemy UAV devices. Meanwhile, Weapon perks give your weapons unique boosts that can give you the edge in a gunfight. Be sure to equip both Operator and Weapon Perks to increase your stopping power!

What Killstreaks are there?

It wouldn’t be a Call of Duty game without plenty of Killstreaks to earn as you rack up eliminations. Veterans of the series will recognise quite a few of them, but there are also a number of new additions which can drastically turn the tide of a game.

Is there crossplay?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare totally supports crossplay between platforms, but you need to opt-in and tinker with a few other things too. Our Crossplay FAQ has you covered.

Does it have a Battle Royale mode?

Not yet, but this doesn’t rule out the possibility of a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Royale mode in the future!

Latest Patch Updates

To make it nice and easy for you to keep up to date with the state of the game, we've put together a page detailing all the patch notes. We're updating it constantly, so our Patch Notes page will keep you in the loop.
