Tarantulas sell for 8000 bells apiece. Here’s how to find an island full of them on Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as well as some tips on how to catch them.
They’ll knock you out and chase you around, but tarantulas are well worth your time as an Animal Crossing: New Horizons islander. Yup, we’re already minmaxing New Horizons. Quality stuff.
How to farm tarantulas in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Tarantulas spawn in the evening on all islands. They’ll chase you down and knock you out unless you catch them quickly. After donating one to Blathers, they’re worth bank from Timmy and Tommy, who’ll pay 8000 bells for each of these hairy fiends.
Sometimes, you’ll use a Nook Miles Ticket and get to go to an island absolutely infested with tarantulas. Sounds horrible, but this will let you fill your pants with big gross spiders and flog them for an absolute killing.
How to make any island a tarantula island
Naturally finding a tarantula island is pretty rare. Luckily (or unluckily), people have found a way to guarantee a horrifying horde of tarantulas on your island.
Various players have discovered you can engineer an island to call the spiders out to play. Here’s how:
Step 1: Firstly, it’s got to be the evening or night time on your island. Wait until 7pm - once you start seeing tarantulas and the sun go down on your own island, it’s time to go.
Step 2: Make sure you’ve got all the tools you need, and purchase a Nook Miles Ticket for 2000 Nook Miles.
Step 3: Go to a deserted island from your airport
Step 4: Eat some fruit - you’ll be able to find it on the island. This’ll give you the strength needed to clear the island of all the stuff.
Step 5: Clear out all the rocks and trees from the island. To get rid of the trees, chop them with an axe and dig up the stumps. For the rocks, eat some fruit and hit them with a shovel. You’ll need a ladder to reach higher-up areas.
Step 6: Get your net out and clear out all the other bugs on the island. This includes all butterflies, ladybugs, and everything in between. Again, don’t forget to check out the higher levels of the island with your ladder.
Step 7: Pick all the flowers on the island. You don’t have to dig them up with a shovel, just plucking them off of their stems should do it.
Step 8: Drop all your stuff on the beach, including your chopped wood and resources, and tarantulas should start spawning in abundance.
You can make ANY island spider island if you do the following:- chop all trees and remove stumps- pick all flowers (pick, not uproot)- remove all rocks- night time only (past 7 worked for me)- dump resources on beach- clear island of all bugs = spiders spawn https://t.co/PqGJTCxAu9Zach Soares (@Voxels) March 22, 2020

How to catch tarantulas
What do you do once they’ve come out? Tarantulas will just knock you unconscious if you’re not careful. Of course, you get to try again, but it’s pretty damn stressful. Here’s some top tips to keep you in the money and out of harm’s way.
1: When the tarantula spots you and perks up, stop moving. Look into its many disgusting eyes and wait. After a second or so, it’ll chill out again and you’ll be able to creep forward a step or two more. Repeat until you’re within net range.
2: Dig holes on your island. Tarantulas will chase you around like no one’s business, but they’ll fall into bodies of water and be lost to the depths if you try to escape there. If you’ve got a tarantula island though, you can hem yourself in with holes, bait them over, and nab them from afar. Check out this in action below.
3: If you sneak up behind a tarantula you’ll be able to grab it easily and without too much hassle. Hold down the A button with your net out when behind a tarantula and you’ll walk slowly towards it, using your net when the button releases. Be careful though - you’ll want to get the distance right or the spider will get the drop on you.
Phew. Hope you’re ready for a scary journey. Arachnophobes might want to give this a skip.
