About Ed Thorn

Ed will not rest until a new Wario Land is announced.

Earth Day arrives later this month, which means Animal Crossing is celebrating it too. This guide outlines what you can expect from the upcoming event.

Confirmed in a Nintendo Direct Mini right at the end of March, a free update dropping in late April will bring “newly-added features including the Earth Day event.” With Bunny Day having wrapped up earlier this month, can we expect another collecta-thon? Yes, but hopefully executed much better.

Below we’ve rounded up everything we can expect from Earth Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and we’ll update this page as soon as we know more.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Earth Day

What is Earth Day?

First, what is Earth Day? It’s an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environment protection. If you’re interested in a complete history, from its inception onwards, the official Earth Day website has you covered.

What happened in previous Animal Crossing games?

Whenever Earth Day swings around for us in real life, Nature Day arrives in Animal Crossing. In previous games (Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Animal Crossing New Leaf) the plaza will be home to a special guest.

In City Folk, the mayor Tortimer will appear in the plaza and offer some advice on looking after the planet. He’ll also give the player a Tree Model, among other things.

In New Leaf, Isabelle takes over Tortimer’s role as the Nature Day rep. She’ll dish out advice and give you a Cool Globe item.

What can we expect from New Horizons?

In the Nintendo Direct Mini announcement, an image of Leif the Sloth’s lovely face was teased. This means he’ll be returning to the series, and presumably, we’ll get a chance to interact with him during Nature Day. Who is he, though?

Well, In New Leaf Leif runs the Gardening Store which provides seeds, fertilizer, and house plants. Eventually, his store merges with Timmy and Tommy’s Cranny.

In Pocket Camp he appears during “Leif’s Spring Flower Event” in which he’ll task you with growing a multitude of different flowers. Do so and he rewards you with various items like furniture, clothes, and more.

So in New Horizons we can fully expect him to pop along to our island. Who knows whether we’ll be able to gain access to a flower store, but there’s certainly a strong possibility.

What’s more, Nintendo promised “newly added features” so there’s also a high probability Leif’s arrival isn’t even the main event, or perhaps he’s running a slightly different business now? Fingers crossed it’s not like the egg event. Please, not the egg event again.

That’s it for this page, but we’ll update it as soon as we learn more. Our Holidays and Special Events Calendar is worth bookmarking if you’re already thinking about the next event, and our How to crossbreed flowers may come in handy for Earth Day’s arrival too!
