Heroes of the Storm: Muradin Builds | Guide - February 2016

Our must-read guide to mastering Muradin with this month's strongest Talent build.

Our complete Muradin guide has everything you need to know about playing this Hero, with the latest builds, tips, map advice and counters.

Muradin's a tough old fighter in Heroes of the Storm, and he's certainly stood the test of time as one of the most powerful Warriors you can play in the game.

He's great at getting fights started and controlling the enemy so that your teammates can get stuck into the other side from a position of relative safety, and he's also very strong at peeling away aggressors that have got just a little too close to your squishier friends for comfort.

If it all goes wrong, Muradin can even make use of his Dwarf Toss ability to get out of trouble nice and quickly, while the very handy Second Wind Trait ensures his health remains topped up - as long as he remains out of trouble for a short while, that is.

Editor's note - February update: Muradin's a pretty stable character in the current metagame, so there aren't many outlandish Talent options to consider. We're sticking with last month's build for the month of February, and you'll also find some new Battleground advice for this Hero further on down the page.

Muradin strategy overview - February 2016

More so than just about any other Hero, Muradin's usefulness correlates directly with the player's ability to monitor what's happening across the map, and respond accordingly. Where are you team mates? Who's struggling? Your ability to either start a fight and absorb damage from the very start, or dive in to a problematic one and soak up the attention is a key part of playing this character.

Avatar will help you achieve this, while abilities like Thunder Clap will provide your allies with some much-needed breathing space. Perservere if the ability to land a solid Storm Bolt is taking a little bit of time to master - it's a key weapon in your arsenal.

Outside of team fights, don't get too greedy when it comes to clearing out lanes, and don't be afraid to lean on your Second Wind Trait in order to regain a little health and ensure you're fighting fit for the next challenge. On that note, always have one eye on your Mana pool while roaming the map, and avoid jumping into a big fight if you're down by more than 50% or so.

The best Muradin talent build - February 2016

Muradin shines when he's used to protect allies and act as a true tank for the team. While he retains some flexibility when it comes to the early Talent choices, here's a solid build that should serve you well in just about any team composition.

Muradin Tank

Level 1 - Reverberation - Enemies hit by Thunder Clap have their Attack Speed reduced by 50% for 3 seconds.

Level 4 - Thunder Burn - Thunder Clap leaves a zone on the ground that explodes after 2 seconds dealing 48 damage and applying a 25% slow for 2.5 seconds.

Level 7 - Piercing Bolt - Penetrates through the first target hit, hitting 1 additional target.

Level 10 - Avatar - Transform for 20 seconds, gaining 1022 Health and causing your Basic Attacks to stun enemies.

Level 13 - Thunder Strike - Thunder Clap deals 300% damage if only one target is hit.

Level 16 - Stoneform - Activate to heal for 50% of your maximum Health over 8 seconds. Second Wind is disabled during this time.

Level 20 - Hardened Shield - Activate to reduce damage taken by 75% for 4 seconds.

Muradin tips and battleground guides - February 2016

As with all Heroes in the game, it's a question of practise-makes-perfect when it comes to mastering Muradin. With that said, there are some useful tips that even the greenest of players can make use of in order to take their Muradin game to the next level quickly.

Try to keep the following in mind if you want to make a – good – early impression on your teammates.

  • When you find yourself all alone and in need of a rapid escape from fast-moving enemies, activate Reverberation to slow them down and buy yourself a bit of breathing/running space.
  • If you can enter a fight without using Dwarf Toss, then do so – this will allow you to instead use the skill as an emergency escape mechanism if it turns out you've bitten off a little more than you can comfortably chew...
  • As a tank, one of your core responsibilities is to block the escape path of your chosen target, so that your buddies can keep chipping away at their health pool from a distance.
  • If at all possible, you should really save the use of Stoneform for whenever Avatar is active. This will give you the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to keeping you up and running and causing mayhem on the battlefield.
  • Don't forget that your Second Wind trait will restore health while you're out of combat. Evaluate all of your options before automatically Hearthing back to base. A little bit of time out on your way to the next fight may be all you need - for now.

Battlefield of Eternity

  • The biggest advantage Muradin brings to this battlefield is his Sledgehammer ability. Crucially, it removes ammunition from any armed structures, which helps your Immortal immensely in the push along the lane it focuses on. Be there during the assault, and keep chipping away with this Ability.

Blackheart's Bay

  • Muradin's stun can make a huge difference on this map, particularly when it comes to preventing a Doubloon hand-in by the enemy team. You'll often face team fights where the enemy are clustered up, giving you plenty of opportunities to fire off your Dwarf Toss / Thunder Clap combo and get the fight going.

Fightin' Cowboy's videos helped us out a huge amount while we were learning the game. The builds have changed with balance patches and shifting metagames, but the broad principles remain the same.
