Our Zoo Warlock deck guide features the best deck list for Season 39, with Mulligan advice, strategy tips, card combos and synergies.
If you're starting to find all of the new content and deck archetypes that have trickled in with the release of Un'Goro just a little too much to stay on top of, then we have good and bad news for you. On the plus side, a tweaked version of Zoo Warlock is proving viable in the current metagame. Less positively, it's not proving to be a particularly competitive deck right now. Still, it's an option for a rather under-served hero this time around.
As there's a new expansion to contend with, there are a handful of new cards which help develop the concept of Zoo even further in Un'Goro. Devilsaur Egg brings back memories of Nerubian Egg, for example, while Ravasaur Rant plays sensibly enough into the archetype's natural drift towards building a wide board. Then there's Ravenous Pterrordax, a creature that seems tailor-made to burst that egg minion in order to get at the 5/5 spawn inside. It's the same deck you've always known, then, just with a little extra flavour.
In the next of our Un'Goro deck guides, we're going to walk you through every stage of understanding the latest take on Zoo Warlock, from the broad strategy that defines the deck, to making it through the Mulligan stage correctly. We've also broken down all of the combos that are contained in this particular deck list. All in all, we think it should give you a pretty good grounding in how the archetype works, and it'll be handy whether you're piloting the deck yourself - or just need to be ready to face it on the ladder.

Editor's note - June 2017 Update: Zoo Warlock is still struggling to punch against the weight of the competition out there right now, but it's probably your best bet for rattling off a relevant class quest. Hopefully this archetype will prove at least a little more potent when the next expansion rolls around.

While there's an undeniably aggressive side to the Zoo style of deck, your win-rate will be much higher if you use your early board presence to take a controlling position, and then slowly snowball your threat on the board. Certainly if you compare it to the likes of Pirate Warrior, for example, Zoo seems almost serene in its cautious contemplation of the board.
In the early game, you should make use of your 1 and 2 Mana drops to get a fast start on the board, and then use buffs as required to make efficient trades that leave your minions standing afterwards. From here it's a case of strength-in-numbers, and building an overwhelming force for your opponent to try and deal with. Careful consideration of the Discard interactions contained within this deck is crucial too.
This is an extremely fluid deck, with no clearly drawn lines about what might be useful at each stage of the game. For this reason, it's important that you acclimatise yourself with all of the card synergies thoroughly, and do so very early on. Zoo Warlock (Standard) Mulligan guide - June 2017
A 1-Mana card of any flavour is your most important keep here, as you can't afford to miss the opening turn at all. Against another aggro deck, you'll value those Fire Fly cards quite highly in particular, as they'll often trade and live to trade again. From here, it's a case of choosing a solid 2-Mana drop and then just building out your curve from there.
Note that if you're playing against slower, more control-orientated decks, it can be OK to hold onto something a little weightier such as Darkshire Councilman, but don't reach any deeper than that into your deck!
Zoo Warlock (Standard) combos and synergies - June 2017
While Zoo may be as old as the hills at this point, there are some relatively new combos to consider with the launch of Un'Goro.
We've updated our list of all of the most important combos, so you should find it easy enough to catch up.
- Malchezaar's Imp will replace whatever you lose from your hand with something else in your desk. You should of course try to reduce the impact of the Discard effect on your hand as much as possible.
- Defender of Argus and Dire Wolf Alpha can be used to boost up even the feeblest of minions in your deck - an important part of taking charge of a match.
- All minions that spawn on the board increase the power of Darkshire Councilman.
- Your prime target for the Battlecry of Ravenous Pterrordax is Devilsaur Egg. See towards the bottom of this page for a breakdown of the Adapt options you can be presented with.
- Every minion summoned on the board - including the Deathrattle of Possessed Villager - will see Knife Juggler ping a random target for one point of damage.
- Try to manage your Discard effects as best you can. Sometimes it's impossible to avoid taking a gamble, but you ideally want to force a Discard when just Silverware Golem is sat in your hand - the tempo gain is wonderful!
- Assuming you have two minions out on the board, Ravasaur Runt will go through the Adapt process. You'll be tasked to choose one of three stat boosts, themselves randomly drawn from a pool of ten:
