Hearthstone: Aggro Paladin deck list guide - May 2017

Our guide to playing the best Aggro Paladin deck in Season 38.

Our Aggro Paladin guide features the best deck list for Season 38, with Mulligan advice, strategy tips, card combos and synergies.

Aggro Paladin is a deck archetype that's been popular for as long as Hearthstone's been in existence, even if its fortunes have risen and fallen somewhat as the metagame has shifted back and forth, and new expansions have shaken up the established order of things.

Traditionally, the deck has thrived on fielding primitive minions from the very first turn of a match, and then increasing their power using any number of the Paladin's many buff spells. Consider all of the Divine Shield minions that can be worked into this sort of deck as well and you'll quickly understand why this archetype can prove to be such a terrifying proposition for anyone to face.

While Aggro Paladin had faded into the background a little in recent months, the release of the Un'Goro expansion has given every aggro deck a little extra boost in the form of Bittertide Hydra. Ignore the self-damage downside, as this monster is just what's needed to provide some mid-game danger for the deck.

In our next Un'Goro deck guide, we'll bring you back up to speed on the fundamentals of playing this sort of Aggro Paladin, and then give you some tips to help you Mulligan correctly. After that we'll outline all of the most important card combos involved, so you can squeeze even more value out of this very dependable deck.

Aggro Paladin deck list and strategy - May 2017

Here's the version of Aggro Paladin we're currently finding a fair amount of success with. As with all deck guides right now, we'll revise this list to suit the shifting Un'Goro metagame.

PaladinNeutral
2 x Meanstreet Marshal2 x Argent Squire
2 x Selfless Hero1 x Patches the Pirate
2 x Smuggler's Run2 x Southsea Deckhand
2 x Grimestreet Outfitter2 x Worgen Infiltrator
2 x Divine Favor2 x Defender of Argus
2 x Rallying Blade2 x Bittertide Hydra
2 x Small-Time Recruits
2 x Blessing of Kings
2 x Truesilver Champion
1 x Tirion Fordring

This isn't a tough deck to pilot by any means, and the name of the game is to simply get off to an early, fast start, use all of your Mana efficiently in the opening turns, and start wrapping up the match as quickly as possible.

That doesn't mean going hell for leather and ignoring the enemy's side of the board at any cost though. If you have a weapon in your hand and can do enough damage - maybe trading a single minion too - to wipe a problematic enemy minion off the board, it's right to do it. If it allows your other minions to live a turn or two more, then it's probably the correct play.

Part of judging your vulnerability in this regard comes from an understanding of the opponent's likely buff or AOE options. If you suspect your entire board is about to be wiped out, trade off and leave the opponent's side of the board looking as weak as possible. Otherwise, push forward for glory!

You need to continuously evaluate the strength of your hand and how close you are to finishing the match. If you've loads of fast damage in your hand, then going for pure face damage with your minions is probably correct. If your hand is slow, it might be best to be more cautious. It's very hard to call at this stage of the Un'Goro metagame, but if in doubt, push for the finishing line is our advice!

Aggro Paladin Mulligan guide - May 2017

As with so many aggro decks it's vital that you get a solid 1 Mana minion onto the board on your opening turn, so dig for cards like Argent Squire, Selfless Hero or Worgen Infiltrator. To chip away at early minions on the other side of the board, you can afford to keep Rallying Blade for Turn 2 if you've got the first play sorted.

In terms of hand-buffing cards, you can keep Grimestreet Outfitter if Turn 1 has been taken care of and you have a decent collection of minions to buff up. Smuggler's Run is a bit slow, however, and so is better saved for playing later on in the game.

Aggro Paladin tips, combos and synergies - May 2017

The best way to understand a deck is to study all of the combos. Here's a breakdown of how all these cards synergise with one another.

- If he's still tucked away somewhere in your deck - not your hand - then Patches the Pirate will be pulled onto the board for free when you play Southsea Deckhand.

- Rallying Blade has synergy with Argent Squire, Tirion Fordring and the recipient of Selfless Hero's Deathrattle bubble.

- To get the free card out of the Deathrattle of Meanstreet Marhsal, you'll need to have buffed its Attack value above 2 - cards like Smuggler's Run, Defender of Argus, Grimestreet Outfitter and Blessing Kings can be used to achieve this.

- The Deathrattle of Tirion Fordring will add a new weapon to your hand, so make sure you've used up your current one if you're confident he's about to be taken out.

- You can play Grimestreet Outfitter very early on, but Smuggler's Run is better combo'd with something like Divine Favor or Small-Time Recruits. It's just better value, which can really matter in a deck like this.
